Nearly 70 years ago, the story of Ylläs Ski Resort began in Varkaankuru, Äkäslompolo. On the site of today’s Kuru Lift, a Volkswagen engine once chugged away, powering the very first ski lift in Ylläs.
Now this legendary slope area has been equipped with lighting, making it possible to ski here even after dark. At the same time, it enables passage between Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo whenever weather conditions allow the summit lifts to operate.
