Fun for families!
Ylläs welcomes families and children to enjoy the slopes. We offer fun activities to children of all ages. This page also lists the benefits we offer to children and families.
Slopes
The carpet lifts, gentle children’s slopes and family slopes are a good place to start practising alpine skiing. The children’s own areas Bouncy slope, Adventure forest, Formula hill, Ice age pipe, kids’ and family slopes and training tracks ensure that the whole family enjoys their time on the slopes on both sides of the fell. After learning the basics, the young and older skiers can continue, for example, to one of the many Snow parks in Ylläs. Finland’s longest slopes, the three-kilometre Jättipitkä and Ylipitkä, offer that magical alpine feeling. Ylläs has three carpet lifts.
Ski School
The weekly ski school programme includes group lessons for children, adolescents and adults and fun games and contests for the whole family. The Werneri and kids’ courses are led by professional teachers who introduce alpine skiing and snowboarding in a safe, fun and social way.

Ylläsjärvi
The Magic carpet lift in the YlläsKids area leads to a gentle skiing slope and a fun sledding hill. The area also has a playground with a jungle gym. Parents can stay at the nearby lean-to and warm by the fire while watching their children play at YlläsKids. The YlläsKids area is open daily when the slopes are open.
In the warmth of indoor playroom Peikonpesä, children can play indoor games and eat their own snacks. There is no child care in the room.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, children can practise the use of ski jumps and rails at the edges of the slopes. There are mounds, small ski jumps and presses next to the children’s and family lifts where beginning skiers can practise jumps safely. The children’s slopes also have training tracks for slalom.
In the summer, Ylläs Bike Park on the Ylläsjärvi side offer excitement for the whole family. Ylläs Bike Park is open from Midsummer until the start of October. Children can practise downhill mountain biking on the Training Track that is located next to the carpet lift. The Training Track is easy and suitable even for balance bikes.
Äkäslompolo
Äkäslompolo has excellent slopes for children with bounces, waves and small ski jumps. During the peak season, the ski school teachers build fun activity tracks on the children’s slopes with unlimited access. The gentle and wide slopes are safe even for larger crowds.
There are also faster slopes and higher ski jumps for kids who already know the basics. The Junior Park has presses and boxes that are suitable for beginners but offer enough challenge for more advanced trick practice, as well.
The children’s cottage at Ylläs Ski Resort Äkäslompolo is a cosy log cabin at the substation of the front slopes. The children’s cottage has facilities for eating snacks, resting, changing a diaper or simply hanging out.
The children’s area with a sledding hill, merry-go-round and playground is located next to the cottage. The children’s area also has a lean-to where you can grill sausages or warm by the open fire. Restaurant Y1 has a well-equipped playroom for small children that makes the time pass quickly while waiting for the food!
